What changed Under Senate Bill 1576
Oregon Senate Bill 1576 was signed in 2026, and its key housing provisions become operative January 1, 2027. The law updates state policy for covered multifamily dwellings and for new rental housing supported by specified Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) funding sources.
For covered new subsidized rental housing, the law requires specified visitability features in each applicable dwelling unit. These include:
• A stepless entrance route
• Usable routes to a common living space and a powder room
• A powder room doorway with sufficient clear width
• Reinforced powder room walls for future handrails
• Controls within reach
Covered developments must also comply with applicable Section 504 accessibility standards. Special provisions apply to shared community rooms, developments with 20 or more contiguous units, and multistory buildings without elevators.
The final requirements for any project depend on its funding, building configuration, applicable code, and agency rules. LiveAble Homes can help your team assess those factors early.
